Microsoft regularly releases new Administrative Templates (ADMX) for Windows Group Policy. For example, certain Group Policy options that apply to Windows 10 or Microsoft Office 365 will not be available in you are running Windows Server 2016.

To rectify this, you need to download relevant ADMX template files from Microsoft and copy them to your Domain Controller. Let’s take Windows 10 22H2 as an example.

  • Download the template files from Microsoft.
  • Run the file and extract the files on your desktop.
  • Copy files to your Domain Controller:
    • ADMX (policy) files to: C:\Windows\SYSVOL\sysvol\your-domain.com\Policies\PolicyDefinitions
    • ADML (language) files to: C:\Windows\SYSVOL\sysvol\your-domain.com\Policies\PolicyDefinitions\en-US
That’s assuming your server is set to en-US language.
  • Re-open your Group Policy Editor and new policies will be available along all the old ones.
